Abstract
| Pages: 338-344
Nowadays we attach a great importance to the clothes we wear from the moment we buy or
make them, to the moment we decide if they are appropriate with our personal style, the place where
we wear them or when we use them. If the XIXth century tries to preserve the tradition with great
accuracy the way it was transmitted from generation to generation, in the tumultuous XXth century we
attend to the birth of a real industry of fashion. Some reminiscences remain, however, which gives us
the opportunity to draw up a study in this regard. The present paper intends to add information
regarding the folk costumes in Galati County, especially in the XIXth century. It is a short
presentation of some of the most traditional clothes such as: skirt, apron, hood, shirt male and shirt
female, decorative designs, footwear; without claiming to have finished the subject we intend to go on
with further research.
The Danubian Eros and Thanatos in Mihail Sebastian’s Work
Author(s):Alina Beatrice Chesca
Journal:
Journal of Danubian Studies and Research
Publisher:
Abstract
| Pages: 345-351
The present paper approaches two psychoanalytical concepts – the EROS and the
THANATOS – which are extremely complex and, at the same time, fascinating due to their
implications and the way they relate to the biography and work of Mihail Sebastian – the writer from
the Danube. Art and biography meet in this danubian writer’s work, who tried to fight against his
traumas and to heal himself through writing. The Eros and the Thanatos are omnipresent in the fiction
of Sebastian’s obsessions and, when he faced destruction at an objective level, this fight resulted in
anxiety and anguish. Along one’s life, there are two types of anxiety: the fear of life and the fear of
death. The main theme of Sebastian’s work is that the human universe proves its strength only by
suffering and that human beings can reach the ultimate dignity through their ability to endure.
However, the instinct of death – the Thanatos – is always connected to the instinct of life – the Eros.
We do not intend to reduce the latter one to the idea of love or passion, but we will interpret it in a
broader sense – that of life, of creative energy, of light. Sebastian himself said: “Life starts in
darkness. There is a night for every day, there is a shadow for every light”.

Abstract
| Pages: 7-14
The basic principles stated and applied by the European Convention of 1950 and by the
common constitutional traditions of the member states are considered general principles of the Law of
the European Union regarding human rights. That is why we cannot talk about the juridical protection
of human rights without being well-acquainted both with the text of the European Convention on
human rights signed in Rome in the year 1950 and with the text of the Constitutions of the member
States, which is – or should have been – in accordance with the framework of the common
constitutional traditions. These general principles and norms should not only be known, but also
included in the texts of the Constitutions of the States of the European Union, through which they
should also assure and grant the juridical protection of the human fundamental rights and liberties,
that have not always been respected in the spirit of the principle stated by the European Convention
and by the constitutional Traditions of the states of the European Union.
