Abstract
| Pages: 5-17
Political inaction is a major ‗Barrier‘ to the progress of democratic values and systems in a
society. It is more critical in the developing countries like Pakistan. A huge body of research on
political apathy and anger in Pakistan is reporting over and over on the causes and consequences of
this pathetic psychology. All that is true however, rays of hope are always there provided nations
continue searching for the opportunities through scientific and rigorous research accompanied with
sincerity and sense of responsibility at all the decision making levels of the state. This paper
postulates a solution model for the issue in the perspectives of Pakistan by capitalizing on the role of
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the Instant Political Transformation of the
developing countries like Egypt & Libya. The New Public Sphere (NPS) is populated with Global
Civil Society (GCS) where International Citizens are connected together 24/7 from any corner of the
Global Village and involved in use of ICT for Social Activism. Pakistan now has millions of Internet
and Cell-users who are the part of GCS and waiting for a ‗Trigger‘ to switch from the ‗Informal
Activism to Formal & Political Activism‘ through NPS.

Abstract
| Pages: 18-32
The study was undertaken to investigate the correlation between mentoring program and
mentees‘ psychosocial development using self-report questionnaires collected from undergraduate
students in teaching based higher learning institutions in Sarawak, Malaysia. The outcomes of
SmartPLS path model analysis showed two important findings: firstly, communication positively and
significantly correlated with psychosocial. Secondly, support positively and significantly correlated
with psychosocial. In sum, the result demonstrates that mentoring program does act as an important
determinant of mentees‘ psychosocial development in the organizational sample. In addition, this
study provides discussion, implications and conclusion.

generating the biggest feedback among their fans. The data was collected by using Social Media
analysis sites, such as www.socialbakers.com and www.facebrands.ro. The study sample comprises

Media Concentration and the Coverage of the 2013 General Election in Kenya: Democracy at the Crossroads

Abstract
| Pages: 45-71
This research explores the relationship between journalistic freedom and media
concentration in Kenya through the lens of the propaganda model (Baker, 2007). The research is
based on two features of the 2013 General Election in Kenya: (1) a survey of the publics‘ confidence
in the conduct of journalists during the 2013 General election in Kenya and (2) a survey of
journalists` perceptions of influence of media ownership on journalistic independence in Kenya. This
research concludes that an increase in media concentration in Kenya has led to the shrinking of the
democratic space. 71 percent of the surveyed Journalists believe media diversity in Kenya is at risk
whilst 69 percent believe that viewpoint discrimination is occasioned by unhealthy Media Ownership
trends in Kenya. The research also indicates that the perceived climate of distrust dogging the
mainstream media in Kenya has seen the public turn to citizen journalism as an alternative source of
information. This survey raises further questions about future implications for journalistic
independence given the dominance of media concentration in Kenya.
